It’s been a week since my decision to change the eating. So from the five meals a day routine I’ve pretty much switched to eat when I’m hungry. Other than that, I do make sure to eat breakfast, and I try to eat something after I workout. The result is that I’m eating two to four meals a day. So over the last week I lost 2-3 pounds. Now I know this goes against all the advice, but if it works - good. Current weight 295 - the goal from February was 250 by September, that means I now have to lose four pounds per week - not good.
My leg muscles have now much better control, I can sit down in a chair slowly with control, without falling into it, that’s taken two months of slow buildup, but a clear measure of improvement.
On a negative note, my general stamina and energy is low, probably from lack of sleep. And my back is causing problems again, sometimes it stabs as I get out of a chair, so I’ve cut back on the ball exercises for the week.

Injury
It’s been a rough week. After my hike last Monday, I stressed myself so much I could not work out on Tuesday. I seems I still have a problem, and might have overworked my semi-permanent problem with my left Achilles tendon.
I got on the treadmill and after a few minutes could not continue. That’s the first time this has happened. So I took a break for a while, did some leg stretches and then it was ok. I kept it down to twenty minutes at a medium pace, rather than a full half hour where I would increase to a high intensity.
Talked to my trainer, who said not to worry. He’s surprised that with carrying so much weight I haven’t had more problems.
Diet
I’m really getting frustrated with the lack of weight loss. After all this time, even allowing for weight gain from conversion from fat to muscle, I should be at least ten pounds lighter.
This week, I’m considering dropping the five meal a day whether I’m hungry or not, and switching to only eating when I’m hungry. The danger of course is that when I do get hungry, I might just grab the first thing in sight.

This is very surprising. I’ve never been to any of these programs, but had thought several of them were supposed to be fairly effective. Just having the group support is supposed to work well for people. I had also been told the the winning system Weight Watchers was supposed to have an unbalanced diet that was too simplistic. Anyway, doesn’t make any difference to me, the idea of a group has never been appealing.

In the middle of the night when I should be getting a decent sleep - I’m surfing blogs. What I need is a live-in cook who can knock together food like what I found here. I also need my kids to leave home so I don’t keep having to make grilled cheese sandwiches.
The photos are incredible. I wish I had more time to do the presentation of what I feed myself, but it’s hard enough to knock together five or six meals a day. Too late to write much more tonight - but here’s the link and I’ll blogroll it as well.

This week I’m eating at other people’s houses a lot. Up till now, 99% of what I eat I make for myself at home, and had established a nice pattern of eating that’s been easy to follow. Part of the trick is to make small portions, and eat only what’s out on the plate. When there’s lots of food on the table, I find it hard to stop nibbling.
Also meat has been a temptation. Normally I only eat meat once a week, that’s easy to keep to, since there’s never any meat around the house. Faced with four juicy burgers, my old eating habits are waiting to care of them. On top of that, chocolate, which I had not eaten for several weeks was waiting for me. The whole balance of carbs/protein/fats has also gone by the wayside.
The result of this - is three pounds up in three days. I’ve got to be firm for the next few dyas, and try and reverse this.

In the last few days - I’ve seen several news items on the new food pyramid - so I decided to check it out. Actually I think the last time I paid attention to the food pyramid was so long ago, I’d rather not say.
United States Department of Agriculture - Step to a Healthier You
It tells me that my basic needs are
| Grains | 8 ounces |
| Vegetables | 3 cups |
| Fruits | 2 cups |
| Milk | 3 cups |
| Meat & Beans | 6.5 ounces |
My first problem with this is the milk - personally I love milk and would easily have three cups a day, but I think that’s too much and I spend a lot of energy trying to avoid drinking it. So I’m very surpised to see it here. Even with low fat (1% or 2% milk) there is too much fat, and too much of the same thing.

So I’m supposed to eat more. I’ve been tracking my diet, and generally I eat only two or three meals a day. I’m perfectly content to eat breakfast, skip lunch and eat dinner.
Of course to be honest, I’m probably in denial and munching little high fat snacks every hour.
Now I’m told I’m eating too little for breakfast and to add a whole wheat bagel. I used to eat one for breakfast most days, and was so pleasews that I managed to stop, that to be told to put in back in, does not make me happy.
I also have to eat five or six meals a day, this is crazy.
